Thoughts on being a 'creative creator'

With so much content out in the world, it’s important to be selective. To think about how what your choosing to include in your life is really feeding you? And rather than believe everything hook line and sinker that someone else is feeding you, be willing to question it and then make it your own.

Hi Marisa,
Your podcast link is not working. I will try again.

Thanks,
You're right Amber! I'm sorry! The spelling in the link was wrong. It should be working now
Thanks Marisa, it was very insightful, just what I needed to hear. [7.44 "a creator is someone who is self-directed; thinks and makes decisions for themselves and creates a life ultimately"]

Thanks for sharing and encouraging me to think and create :)
oh! I am so glad Amber, and I love that passage. thank you for sharing it.
Your discussion here on the blog and lately on the podcast make me think of Anne Truitt and her artist journal entries. There was just a post about her daybook on - brainpickings.org/index.php/2014/08/27/anne-truitt-daybook-artist

I think we are consuming more AND creating more these days. It might not seem like it, but even teenagers curating their instagram feeds are "creating" - we probably need to redefine the definition of what we consider creative, huh?
Hello! This is my first time on your site, and I really enjoyed your podcast. I found your book at a craft store, and started leafing through it, and it was very inspiring for me. I myself am a writer most of the time, but I've been trying to bring back my artistic (well, outwardly, non-wordy artistic) side, and your book has certainly helped.

I actually have been wrestling with this exact concept, and I just couldn't find words that fit what exactly was bothering me -- you hit the nail on the head, however. I know I often feel overwhelmed with the amount that is being created online, and the consumer mentality we do seem to have. I do think we are consuming and creating more, and yet the "creation" feels fake to me at times, stilted, almost like it is trying to break outside of some unseen box. I think it's important to put feeling into creating, instead of simply "going with" whatever is popular, etc. like you said. The originality, or perhaps the individuality, is lacking.

Thank you for sharing!
Best Wishes,

Alexandra~
thanks for sharing your thoughts Alexandra. I agree about what feels like fake creations. It is almost as if we feel like we will be left behind if we are not putting something, anything out there instead choosing to be thoughtful with everything we make and share.
Hi Marisa! I just wanted to say that I'm still here & listening (often silently). Just caught up on your last 4 podcasts!

I do think things have definitely shifted with blogs. Sadly I think it's due to lack of time as everything in life seems to have sped up to a new level & everyone is racing (I feel) on a hamster wheel to get things ticked off their do list- I know I'm guilty of this- so we tend to take the easiest & quickest route to getting our work out there & seen. This does sadden me. It's so nice when I finally pause for a minute & say to myself 'Enough is enough! YOU NEED TO SLOW DOWN!' Then I take some time off & visit my favourite blogs etc I do feel like you can get to know an artist much better from their blogs than their FB page but it's having the time to visit them....As a parent, free time is something I don't have a lot of & I think that has also greatly effected the time I have to visit blogs.

I still continue on with my own blog but I do for myself- I use it as my online art journal, something that in 5 years I can look back on & see how I've grown as an artist :) I try (very hard) not to focus on the number of views I get but to focus on the enjoyment of doing it.

Hope that all made sense! And thank you (as always) for your honest & open podcasts. I'm looking forward to the Creative Thursday Show which I backed & happy to see that you received the full funding! YAY!
