Locally Grown

   Locally grown bundles2 DSC_0011

So the story goes like this: Christmastime, a couple of years ago; Sean’s stepmom, Jan,  had a request from her granddaughters for some chicken fabric. The request by the way is because they LOVE chickens. Aside from having an extensive garden, they also raise their own chickens and goats at their home in Northern California. Jan looked and looked, telling me she had the hardest time finding some fun chicken fabric for the girls. That’s that - I thought as soon as I can, I’m designing some chicken fabric. {which I like to call the "prosperity hens"}

The second inspiration behind this story is my own desire to start a garden even in the middle of a thriving metropolis, Los Angeles; because of my love for fresh, healthy food, cooking and the kinds of delicious meals where your favorite people gather around the table for hours. I also shop locally, every week, at my neighborhood Farmer’s Market. While my garden has only grown to include cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs in pots, one of these days...I will expand it.

And, this is how the desire for chicken fabric grew into an entire collection.  It’s here! As always I hope you love it. From what I hear so far, the sheep might be a hit?! I also tried out a completely different, more neutral color palette, which I call "Natural", and the other with my signature brighter palette, reminds me of vintage kitchen colors so I’ve been calling it "Kitsch".

You can find it at independent quilt shops both brick and mortar and online, and I have fq bundles in the shop.

Oooh! and I almost forgot! for the first time I’ve introduced tiny stripes to the collection, acting as a solid to combine with the color palette I typically use. I’m super excited about these and how perfect they blend into all kinds of projects.

Speaking of! Faith of Fresh Lemon Quilts put together this great Farmer’s Market Tote tutorial using "Locally Grown". Right! aren’t these going to be perfect for a trip to the farmer’s market? in the form of an  apron or a tote bag? In fact I’ve been carrying Shaerie’s tote bag as my go to purse for the last few months, and made another one this week with the green wreath pattern.

I adore this collection! I love learning the story behind this wonderful designs. I especially love those chickens, and sheep print, and the tomatoes too. I'm looking forward to making some farmers market totes in anticipation of our market opening in late April. Congrats to you on a fabulous new collection!
My Maman bas some chickens in their week-end farm, and when I miss the French fresh country food and scenery, I draw hens by the dozen! I love all your delicious fabric motifs but the hen one is specially endearing to me.
Oh, I love that Natural Palette!
I must have some of you sheep fabric so I can sew a new knitting bag
I love that fabric!!! It's very hard to find sheep fabric that's not for babies!
This collection is a total homerun. I have seen it sell out fast in one of my favorite online shops. I think both color stories are great too and this is an excellent gender neutral collection. Congratulations!
I just stumbled onto your blog today (from Flax and Twine) and it's funny because I just bought some of your sheep fabric in the natural palette a few weeks ago for a do. Good stitches quilt I am helping to make. The fabric was perfect because the quilt might be going to a boy or a girl so we wanted something gender neutral but fun. Anyways, I love your collection and it was nice to hear the story behind it.
I totally want the neutral strawberry, the neutral flowers on a white background, and both the tan and blue stripes. (fyi the etsy link is missing a "d"). Now I have to figure out what pattern to make! Love these!
I read the words "chicken fabric" on Crappy Parenting and had to click over. I love chickens, I love fabric. Your designs are GORGEOUS! I am going to remember that blue fabric with the bees for my next chair upholstering project.
The sheep one definitely caught my eye first before anything else. This is my first time at your site, and I LOVE it. I am heading to your shop now.
thanks Linnea! and thanks for the fyi about the link. fixed! :)
I, too, saw the words "chicken fabric" on Crappy Parenting and couldn't stop myself from clicking over. So glad that I did. Looove these fabrics! One of my closest friends is a self-professed "chicken lady" and I can't wait to show her these.
Loooove this! Heading over to your shop right now!
We rescued a sweet border collie this past spring, and might have to make a skirt out of the sheep print. That way he can herd me around! Lovely!
Oh-happy-day!
These are darling, irresistible prints.
Have you seen what Amanda Soule has
done with them? I rushed right over to learn more!
