get your house in order

Get your house in order
5 x 7 in.

This has been a theme of mine lately.

Well, not just lately but especially over the last two years. As you know if you’ve been following the blog. My passion/obsession for de-cluttering and re-organizing seems to be my new summer past time?!

Recently I was faced with a big decision, one of those do I or don’t I? kind of decisions and the person helping me make it said 'Well, this is about getting your house in order. You want to get your house in order." And as soon as he said that, I knew. I knew I needed to go ahead with it and I knew in the moment that I was making the right decision.

I don’t know but if you’re at all like me, sometimes you take projects etc. to certain level of completion, meaning = you don’t quite finish it. You don’t quite follow all the way through. I have no idea what that is, where it comes from or why I do it?! Any thoughts? It manifests itself in quite a few different ways with me, not just professionally but personally too. And quite honestly, it’s a habit that’s getting a bit old and tiresome. I don’t know what I’m afraid of? That if I complete something, get it in order, suddenly there will be nothing left to do? Oh, but there always is. And really it feels so much better to see something to completion.  To handle my business. To get my house in order.

And then make a painting about it. ;)

how can we be on the same page so often...
I have been trying to divest-inspired by you...also excited because company's coming!
I just made a blog post titled "A need to create," and I speak along the same line of thought, referring to incomplete projects. But with my unfinished paintings I have decided that I am going to learn to be OK with just painting over it... not just sitting them aside for long periods of time ( years), when I don't have that sense of excitement about what the end result will look like.

And I to am getting my house in order organization of everything is first thing on my agenda.
Very thought provoking post. Really like it - good stuff. I'm a graphic designer and learned a long time ago that creative people have trouble with jumping back and forth between projects because the ideas come so fast and furious. Wonder if that's your case too? Just a thought...

And, as an aside- I'm an avid reader of your blog and have just started blogging myself. All the great blogs I've been following (yours included of course) are so inspiring! Please check out my site and follow if interested.
Thanks!
hey lady! you know, get yo house in ordah... and it's a much better house up there on that painting, then the alternate...
It isn't completion I have a problem with, it's starting. When there is so much in my face I'd rather turn tail and hide. Or walk by the laundry, don't look down at the kitchen floor, or work on a different project instead of the one with a deadline. I'm working on it... That's how I get my house in order - one step at a time.
Good luck!
Oh my word do I hear you! I have to literally push myself to finish or resign and accept that I won't. I think for me it's a fear of finishing and no more second chances to fix it.
Hi Angela - that is an interesting one. No more second chances to fix it...hmn...i wonder if that is related to wanting everything to be perfect? has me thinking about my own need/desire for things to be perfect, and when something is finished. you are right. there is no opportunity to perfect it further.
oh yes. starting. once the momentum gets going it is much easier to keep it going. so you are going at it in the best possible way. one step at a time indeed :)
i agree. i love this house much more :)
yes! sometimes painting over something creates a wonderful new piece incorporating the earlier creation with the new one.
hi elaine! congratulations on starting your blog! and yes, ideas do come fast and furious ;)
Hi Marisa:

Thanks very much. I have and do grapple with perfection and lack of finishing all of the time!
