turns out you learn a lot on twitter

Pinterest creative thursday 2

There’s always a lot of dialogue about social media these days. Whether it’s useful or a time suck?

I would say that for most of us, it is a little of both.

Since I left Facebook I’ll just speak about twitter. It really depends upon who you follow and how you decide to use it as to which above categories your time on twitter falls into.

I’ve tweeted about the fact that recently I have been 'almost entirely successful' in making self care + balance and well being my highest priority. This means a lot of things, but pertaining to today’s topic it mostly means less time online.

I guess that’s why this morning when I finally spent some time on twitter,  I felt like I could really indulge following a lot of threads to various videos and articles.  Let’s face it. There is just so much content out there now? What stands out and what is really worth paying attention to? I don’t have the answer to that. I’m working on it. In the meantime here are a few links that really stood out to me.

Pinterest creative thursday

  • Ez wrote a great post sharing a tip about using Pinterest to help understand your readers/shoppers. I have yet to accept my invitation to Pinterest...speaking of time. But I love it. I really do. It’s a beautiful, inspiring site. Speaking of 'paying attention' I have to say that sometimes I wonder if you all are really listening out there? So many of you visit here daily, but only a very few of you talk to me regularly. Do not misunderstand - I totally and completely get it for the same reason: there’s too much content which means there’s too much to respond to as well. But still - even though I keep this blog as a personal record of my journey, I am sharing it with you and thinking of what you might enjoy when I’m posting.  Sometimes I wonder if I’m still providing inspiration and useful content? Entering this blog’s URL into Pinterest revealed to me that you are following along out there, you are still interested and inspired and many of you are drawn to the same images, colors and creations right now. {see above} So interesting.
  • Two very thoughtful and insightful videos on innovation among designers, specifically independent designers and how that relates to trade shows. One by Susy and one by Megan
  • And a great article about no longer giving everything away for free 'No you cannot pick my brain- it costs too much' - I may have to continue this discussion...

Interesting food for thought Marisa, I especially enjoyed the article, 'No You Cannot pick my brain'.
hi! i am a long time reader, but this is my first ever comment - fitting on a post where you are questioning whether we're all still listening. I often read my daily blogs in google reader, which makes commenting less convenient (at least for the lazy ones among us). i am continuously inspired and challenged by the blogs that i read, yours included. the internet is a funny beast - at once so intimate, and so isolating. i often assume that 'everyone else' will comment, so why do i need to? and i take for granted the fact that there is a real person writing and sharing, and that we all need positive reinforcement from time to time. it must be hard to be an artist on the internet - to put yourself out there everyday.

thanks for making me think about this from another perspective. how long, really, does it take me to jot down a quick comment? no longer than it took me to read the post in the first place. you've inspired me to be better about commenting on the posts that really make me stop & think. if i am truly inspired by someone, the least i can give in return is a thank you! :)

p.s. one of my pins is in the screenshot above! you should join pinterest - i'm totally addicted! :)
Howdy Marisa! Saw your tweet earlier about taking time out for balance, et al. I've been doing something kinda like that for about 6 mos - just reclaiming and enjoying what I've built in all facets of my life. Shame that it often takes a meta-awareness of what we're NOT doing to pull as back to what should be a given.

Love the pininterest info. Haven't been to Creature Comforts yet tonight. I sort of feel violated to see all my stuff out there without my knowledge. Odd.
I would have to say i always take time for me and to make sure Im feeling Balanced no life changing thing happened Ive just been that way since a kiddo. I enjoy reading your posts and learn something everytime:O) I dont tweet maybe in the future and never heard of Pininterest well have to check it out:O) have a great week and thanx for sharing:O)
I am absolutely inspired here. I love your art, your gentle spirit and I really like hearing about your journey.

I'll comment more often. I blog as well and often wonder when the comment section isn't busy.

Glad to know you here in blog world :)
Hi Erin. Thanks for saying hello and thank you so much for your comment. I forget about people reading through google reader. I use it and yet still always want to click over to the actual blog, usually because I love to see the posts surrounded by the authors design. Im funny that way :) I also have found myself thinking - oh someone else will leave the comment and then I remember, exactly what you pointed out - how I feel as an artist sharing my work in the world and if I can take a moment to show some support, I should. It does mean a lot. While no one can validate anyone enough to make them feel confident about their work or whole as a person, a little positive reinforcement every now and then is nice and encourages people to keep sharing with others. so thank you again! and I will...I will join Pinterest!!
hi Jan! so happy to hear from you, especially the part that you are taking time for yourself. It is so important and so underrated. we need more examples of creative entrepreneurs {moms especially} doing this. truly missed you at market. will see you soon though! xo
good for you Isabel!
glad to know you too Lisa! thank you :)
