i am always here for you

I am always here for you
6 x 6 in.

There has been a lot of talk online about how we live with the tragedies experienced by Japan last week. Liz wrote a great post here.

Do we mourn, do we go on with our daily lives? Do we do both?

The world is so much smaller than it used to be. We learn of the world’s tragedies in an instant and our hearts immediately go to those in need. We recognize that we are all in this together.

However as I mentioned before, I often feel helpless when an event like the earthquake and Tsunami’s of Japan happen so far away. What can I do to help?

What I do know after my experience last month is that prayer and sending good thoughts do make a difference. I also know that I am best able to help someone when I feel happy, not when I am sad and mourning loss. This means that the way I have coped with the events of the past week, because we also received news that one of our kitties, Riley, is terminally ill,  is by appreciating all that I do have, and by focusing on activities that bring me joy. Believe it or not, all the organizing was one of those activities. And as you know, the other is painting.

I’m always so moved by the ways in which the hand made community in particular offer support during times like these. I would like to help too.

I loved painting this piece. I felt better and I sent good thoughts to anyone out there who might need it today, especially in Japan. I am also donating 30% of the sale of this painting to the Red Cross. I will be listing it as a limited edition print in my Etsy shop as well, with 15% of each sale of the print also going to the Red Cross.

I love this. My husband and I were just talking about this last night...that helpless feeling. This is a wonderful painting Marisa. I too contributed to the cause to help those in Japan. But you wonder if you're doing enough. But I guess something is better than nothing.

Again, great painting. I love it.

What a beautiful piece Marisa
The painting is absolutely beautiful, Marisa. The meaning, love, concern, and spirit behind it are even more beautiful. You always enlighten me and move me to be a better person. Today is no exception.

Much love. And special hugs to Riley.
Such a lovely, sweet tribute.
special thanks to you Maureen. hugs back to you xo
It's just beautiful.
Deares sweet marisa, this painting is beautiful and the meaning behind this piece is truly inspiring! You are so right that the only way to help someone is when we feel happy and not at times of sadness. My thoughts and prayers still go out to the beautiful people of japan. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and painting with us. Have a lovely merry happy week and love to you!
Hey Marisa, I'm a big fan of your work and podcasts. I agree that good thoughts and prayers do make a difference besides donating.

There's been a hype where people keep saying that prayers won't do anything and you have to "DO SOMETHING".

I see this those as a cunning ploy to exclude God out of the equation - the world is so secular it's sad.

I say that we should do both - pray and donate. Act both materially and spiritually. After all, balance is everything.

Keep up the good work. :)
What a wonderful idea Marisa!
Marisa, big big thank you from Tokyo for your thoughtful and beautiful painting. I'd never seen such a cute interpretation of our flag before.

I was at Squam last September and wished that I had taken your class. I used to use Gekko printing every year for the new year's greetings, but never imagined such creative ways of using it like you. Your ways of seeing is quite amazing!
The post and painting are so beautiful Marisa!
