Embracing it all

Salt lake city

I traveled to Salt Lake City yesterday. So excited to be here. And a funny thing happens whenever I travel, I feel ready for new beginnings. Maybe it has something to do with the experience that flying brings ~ the sense of freedom, limitless possibility and the opportunity to literally see the world from a new perspective.

Also, after writing my post last week and reading through all of your thoughtful comments, I came to a new conclusion. I am embracing it all.

I think some of the stress and overwhelm comes from the resistance that comes from thinking that I have to focus on more than just one facet of me. A creative entrepreneur filled with so many ideas, passions, a genuine love for life {on most days} that’s who I am.  And when I embrace this, that is when my life flows with ease.

Then also, this week Sean’s sister Maura sent me an email with this quote that I think sums it up perfectly.

"A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between her work and her play; her labor and her love; her mind and her body; her education and her recreation.  She hardly knows which is which.  She simply pursues her vision of excellence through whatever she is doing and leaves others to determine whether she is working or playing.  To her she always appears to be doing both."

Have a wonderful week everyone. I will be speaking, and whooping it up at Alt over the next few days, so I’ll see you on the other side, or of course you can follow along on my adventures over at twitter.

Maybe that’s it ~ we are all just learning how to master the art of living

I think you're onto something...Mastering the ART of Living...

I have been feeling a similar unbalance lately in my life as I try to balance returning to school, with my creative endeavors. I agree with that quote...we all need to
master the art of living...living that encapsulates all the facets of who we are.

Lovely blog you have. I enjoy checking in often!

Laura

mastering the art of living...I love it....and what a great quote....Sundance is so lovely, I hope you get a chance to get over there....it is such a beautiful, peaceful place one where you can definitely master the art of living....

Maybe thats the new phrase for the year....

"master the art of living" have a great time, Marisa....
I hope you love Salt Lake! It's a fabulous place.

I love Maura's quote. I have a life that is pretty overflowing with commitments (as we all have) and I find that I have to be a master at combining passions. I think "embracing it all" and not allowing ourselves to say "I hate the business side" (or the housekeeping or shipping or whatever) is key. All lives have chores and favorites. I tell my kids, Work can feel as good as play; when you learn to love them both, then you'll find you just love life.

PS: When you need a timeout, Sam Weller's is a great bookshop nearby (Main and about 350 S). Eat at the Red Iguana on South Temple St for great Mexican food, and at The Roof for amazing views and more good food than you can stand (the desserts alone are awesome!) (Top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building near Temple Square; the JSMB itself is gorgeous and a reason to go). Have fun!
I moved from Salt Lake to Indiana last year, and I miss it dearly. Enjoy the mountains (and some Red Iguana) for those of us living in the plains.

Thank you for the lovely quote and for your honesty. Be good to yourself.
