Santa is here!

Santa is here! card
6  x 6 in.

I believed in Santa for quite a few years growing up, thanks to my parents, my mom in particular who took painstaking efforts to keep the magic alive...like leaving trails of tinsel from the tree to the fireplace {remember when we used to put those silver icicles on our Christmas trees? what happened to those by the way?}. I swore I heard reindeer footsteps on top of our house Christmas Eve more than once. In fact, I know I did.

And while I eventually learned the real story of Santa, after arguing countless times with my school mates adamant that he did indeed EXIST, I never lost the feeling of magic. To me the spirit of Santa is that feeling of magic. And the magic moments of life, that is something I will always believe in. Thank you mom for giving me that gift.

In the spirit of Santa, I have painted him a few times this season. This particular santa was inspired by my favorite Santa to date, a vintage ceramic one I found on a holiday outing to Santa Barbara during Christmas 2008.

Well helllloooo santa! He is such a cutie. I do remember those icicles, what did happen to them? who knows. Such a magical time, enjoy every moment of the run up to the holidays. :-) xx
i struggled for a while deciding whether or not to introduce santa to my son in such a magical way. i decided to give my son that same magical feeling you share and i experienced as well. loving the little scarf.
Love the painting and the ceramic figure! I remember that tinsel, our cat ate it once and it made for some painful poops on his part, poor kitty. He was okay though. I'm neither telling my son that Santa exists or doesn't...I present it in the same way I do elves or fairies or magic. "Some people believe..." is a handy phrase that I've used. ;)
This painting is soo adorable. I still believe in santa. :) Silly hehe Have a lovely merry happy week and love to you!
LOVE this painting! Yay for Santa, and for beautiful art like yours.
he is soooo precious....I love santa and everything that surrounds his magic of the season....Emily is questioning this year (3rd grade and 9 years old) and will not tell us what is on her list for him. According to her "that is between Santa and I and you do not need to know..." I want so badly to keep this alive for her but I am sure "santa" is going to get the wrong things and the magic will die....
your characters with him are sooo special as well...thanks Marisa for keeping the magic alive...
