saying goodbye to Tank

Tank1

It’s happened again. And Ok, now I’m done.

This has been the year of of all years for saying goodbye to our dogs.

I struggle to share this on the blog. I just can’t be sad anymore. And mostly, I just don’t want to spread sadness into the blogosphere, especially since this is my third post of this kind, in the last six months. But I would be re-miss in not acknowledging Tank, because if you’ve been a follower of the blog, then you too had a chance to know him.

Tank is in the hall

Over the last six years, he has made many an appearance here, acted as a muse and just made our lives more fun with the presence of his spirited little self.

A chihuahua-shih tzu mix, and about the cutest dog you’ve ever seen, Tank belonged to my ex-husband Art and his wife Chi. He came to live with them as a puppy and bonded with Jackson like no other. This made Jackson and Tank a package deal.  Wherever Jackson was, Tank was.  I don’t know if Jackson was so thrilled about this  new arrangement, but the best part about Tank ~ he didn’t care. Life just never got to him. Honestly, this tiny dog was a constant reminder to us, not to take life too seriously, but enjoy it instead. That’s why this post can’t be sad, because Tank was happy.

It’s true. Actually, happy might even be an understatement. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a sunnier personality. He was a free spirit, and a caper, who liked to escape from the yard and take himself on walks. Oh, yes he did.  A total snuggler and a lap dog, any chance he had to get love and affection~ he took it. He would chase the cats, {you know someone had to keep them  in check}, but also came to screeching halt mid-chase if we told him to stop. He always wanted to be a good dog, desperately trying to be on his best behavior, gazing at you, so you could just love him more. And honestly, look at him. I mean how could you not love him more even if he did chase the cats? So, so sweet. I know we are all going to miss him.

This loss was unexpected. Tank suddenly became extremely ill over the weekend and before Art and Chi could get him to the vet, he was gone. With his immense love for Jackson I can’t help but wonder if he just decided that he wanted to be with him again. I bet all three of them are hanging out, lounging like they used to.

I remembered this morning that Tank, along with Lulu and Jackson inspired one of my very first Podcasts, titled "Comparison". I thought I’d share it with you today, not to mourn another loss, but instead to honor and remember ~ to appreciate who we are and all that we already have in our lives right now, because I think that’s how Tank would want it to be.

What a great post honoring his memory. I'm sending positive thoughts your way.
I'm really sorry. That seems incredibly unfair that they all went this year. =( I'm so sorry for this new loss. What a sweetie! You can just tell from the pics. =) I'm positive they are all three hanging out again. And I'm also positive that they wouldn't want you to be sad.
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It's hard losing a four-legged friend. Always they will be apart of your lives as their memories live on.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss..but what great memories you have! He will be missed..
Oh No! So, so, so, so sorry.
Oh goodness you sweet heart! I'm so sorry. What lucky dogs you have had to be loved so much by their owners. I'll be thinkin' about ya...
So sorry for your loss. They are our babies, part of our families and it is a hard thing to lose them. We lost our sweet "Puss" after nearly 20 years and I swore I'd never go through that again. Now we have three... ::sigh:: They do add so much to our days.
Oh so sorry Marisa....Tank sure did look like a little sweetie and I think it's great that you share/show his sweet precious life here on your blog, sad or not sad, that's important.
Marisa, I am so sorry, I loved your postings and podcasts with Tank. What a cutie. I'm sending you a big virtual hug.
What a sweet guy... so sorry for your loss. I'm giving my kitties an extra snuggle tonight in Tank's honor.

XOXO
Marisa,

I am so sad to hear about Tank. I loved his sweet face. I will miss seeing him on your blog. I am sure he is with Jackson & Lulu.

I am sorry you have had to deal w/ so much dog loss this year. They will be forever in your heart.
Sweet Tank, with a name like that you know he was a dog with a GREAT personality... he sounds like a pooch I would have really have liked to get to know. Lucky you for getting the time and laughter with him you did! Way to be strong Marisa, huge hugs coming your way!
you're amazing my friend. so sad that you lost another sunshine in your life, but so glad that you sound ok. thanks so much for sharing such sweet stories and it's nice to think of the three friends back together again.
So sorry for your loss. He looked like a dear little guy.
How devastating! I CANNOT imagine how this feels--and for the third time in so short a span. This seems pointedly cruel instead of random. Tank melted my heart every time he made an appearance on your blog (thank you for sharing him). If he did that to me only on occasion and through a computer screen, I can only guess just how deeply you loved him. Take heart that he is his happy self scampering about up in doggie heaven.
Sending you a virtual hug...
I'm so sorry to hear about Tank. I hope he's with Jackson and LuLu and they're all having a blast together.
So not fair! Such a loss of friends in so short of a time. I'm so sorry to hear. Big hugs to all of Tank's friends.
Hi Marisa,
I am sending you many, many (((hugs))) for the dogs you've lost in your life this year. As someone whose whole heart and then some belongs to a labrador named Honey Bear, I can only imagine how hard it has been to have to say goodbye so many times this year.

I also wanted to tell you how much I loved this podcast and how it was SO what I needed to hear today! This past weekend I went out surfing and yesterday had a pretty great time on some bigger waves, but then started comparing myself to some other people I know that I saw over the weekend and started beating myself up because I can't cross-step yet and I am having a bit of a hard time standing up at the top of the wave and getting on the face right away. And it seems with every new accomplishment, there is always someone who can do something better than I can, which causes me to ignore all the hurdles I've jumped to get to the point where I am now and focus on why I am not where *they* are. Whew!

So, most of your podcast hit me right between the eyes as it relates to surfing. I might have to listen to it over and over again every time I get back from the beach! :)

Many hugs and much love,
thanks for sharing such positivity and warmth,
Kristen
