a return to the beginning + six tiny portraits

June tiny portraits

As I continue to re-acclimate after my time at Squam and the months of non-stop shows, teaching and projects begin to subside ~ I’m left with a new burst of clarity and an intense longing to get back to my life.

Getting back to my life means many things at the moment. One is to have my weekends again, or at least a couple of days a week where work is off limits. Another is to basically enjoy my home more than a place to sleep, snack, and clean up between projects. I want to experience the summer evenings outside before it becomes fall. I want to be more present with Sean and my co-workers. And finally I want to create for me, not that I don’t do that already but I spent the better part of the last few months preparing for shows, for galleries...and I’ve realized that creating in this way is different.

While I’m incredibly honored for the invitations to show my work, I’m just going to go ahead and say it, I think after it is all said and done, I’m ready to return to the way I began. Funny isn’t it? You have all of these ideas about where you want to go, what your career is supposed to look like, with a lot of expectations about how all of that is going to unfold; and in the end most of it turns out different than you planned and sometimes you realize that where you were going was really just a journey to return you to a place of appreciation for what you already have. But for this awareness alone, it is always worth the journey, because you wouldn’t know if you didn’t try something new.

And speaking of new, I’ve been preparing for my e-course beginning this Thursday ~ which I am very excited about!! In fact preparing for this e-course has been another gift for me to re-align with my original intent behind my creations, this business and my life as it now stands.

It’s commonplace for me to have these bursts of clarity, I’d say pretty much every 4-6 months... but this time is slightly different. I’m officially on the other side of accomplishments and experiences, I imagined, hoped for and pursued for some time ~ and all I can say is it’s an interesting place to be....and I think I’d like to dip my toe back into daily painting...

Did you get a new camera? The photo of your paintings is so sharp and gorgeous. =) And I of course adore all those little faces.

You most definitely should enjoy your home for more than eating, sleeping, etc. I'd think of it like "living in and experiencing" one of your very own art pieces.

And I have to say, I'm very much looking forward to seeing daily paintings again. =)
coming full circle...it's a trend! :)
It is a trend! an after Squam trend :)
Daily painting did I hear you say? Hurrah!!! I loved seeing your creations everyday so I'm really looking forward to that and of course the e-course! Getting rather excited actually- Can't wait to get started!

Have a lovely merry happy week and love to you!
I can totally relate to the 4-6 month burst of clarity! I wrote about it in a similar fashion this Spring - I'm sure you'll totally see yourself in it: http://daisyjanie.typepad.com/daisyjanie/2009/04/blossoming-renewal.html
Congratulations on your breakthrough & rebirth. Sounds like your journey far and wide and back again was well worth it; just think how much more you love what you do and knowing you can choose how to do it! I look at your art every single day...my one-year-old's nursery has three pieces on the walls that I adore. So glad to hear there will continue to be more where they came from. :)
This post is precisely why I love you and am so excited for Thursday! Yes, full circle. Squam definitely set the course for visioning. I can't say that I, personally have made it around the curve to the beginning, but I'm definitely looking behind me as I look forward... and missing the days where my creativity had a little less structure... or when weekends were really weekends. Thanks for your lovely eloquence as you share your journey. I love your words.
It's great that you have discovered where you have been and where you want be at this moment with your art. I'm at a similar crossroads. Art is joyful to make, and certainly more fun when it comes straight from the heart!
I adore your blog. I just found it and it is so inspiring! I love making art when it comes from the heart.
Rock on sista!
You sound happy and peaceful. What a nice feeling to be on the other side of your dreams. To know that you did it! Accomplishment is a powerful thing. Have fun revisiting your beginnings.
Amazing paintings! So beautiful, innocent, sweet. And I love this: "Sometimes you realize that where you were going was really just a journey to return you to a place of appreciation for what you already have." Well said. I've been on that journey enough times to have a well-worn circle "back home."
I love the little paintings! So excited for your e-course. It came up quickly!
oh my ... i just want to kiss all the little faces of your work ... truly ... they represent such an innocence and beckon kindness ...
thanks to pve, i'll be looking into your e-course ~ very cool ...

Have you read The Alchemist? It might strike a chord with you right now!

I've been visiting your wonderful blog for over six months but this is my first comment. Your little creations inspire child-like delight in me! I see your characters as little mood guardians. I can't help but feel a little warm and fuzzy when I look at them.

By the way, I don't usually gush.

Welcome home.
