family tree

Family tree

8 x 8 in.

This one is dedicated to families, especially those of you out there who are part of families with 4 children, of which both Sean and my mom are members ~ And to the parents, how you do it, I don’t know! But I admire you immensely :)

"Family Tree" is a painting full of spirit and hope for now and the future, because I was listening to this great conversation while I was painting it. And yes I am still willing to express this sentiment even though I manage to tune into the news on occasion. There is a bigger picture happening... But, you see ~ the news is totally missing conversations like this, so I feel it is my duty to fill in the gaps. Oh, who am I kidding I felt like this subject matter was too inspiring not to share here on my blog because it relates to probably most of you who visit here regularly. And this is also exactly how my "planned" work schedule on certain days gets tossed aside, albeit joyfully tossed aside, because I get so inspired I have to stop everything and write a blog post.  Today, this happened because I tuned into Oprah’s interview with author Daniel Pink and now I will spend at least an hour agonizing over this blog post and whether I can convey EVERYTHING this conversation inspired in me, as concisely as possible ~ a challenge for me when my brain feels like it is spilling over with ideas. (The interview and many others are all available as podcasts at her website, just search under her Soul Series Radio Program ~which by the way, Oprah’s Soul Series, is nothing less than AMAZING ~ especially if you are one of the "thinkers" like me.)

Have you heard of this book? "A Whole New Mind ~ Why Right-Brainers will rule the Future"

A whole new mind

I haven’t read it yet, but just after listening to Daniel talk to Oprah, I’m completely convinced that it is finally "my time" in the world ~that it’s "our time" ~ all of us,  who felt slightly out of the ordinary or simply in the minority with our passion for creativity, and aptitude for out of the box thinking and innovative ideas. Daniel is suggesting that this kind of right brain thinking, and way of being will thrive now and into the future ~ and so much of what he’s saying, makes complete sense. If I understand his theory correctly, it’s that we are living in an abundant time, where most of our needs are met, where many of us have more freedoms than we ever had in the past, and since we are no longer solely focused on survival, space has been created for more of us to ask why we are here. And the process of answering this question ultimately leads to us wanting to have more meaning and connection in our lives, to live a life that that is meaningful. And this is where art, design, storytelling, and empathy to name a few will continue to become more vital in our conscious evolution.

There is a huge shift in consciousness happening, I mean hello, books titled  "A NEW Earth" and "A Whole NEW Mind", just to name a few ~ There is no doubt and you’d really have to be living under a rock not to notice it. When I tune into this idea, I never lose hope about the present or the future. Just look at the blogging world for one. So much of the blogging world embodies the perfect example of what Daniel is suggesting. I would venture to say that the most well known bloggers are Right-Brainers who are especially willing to start what Daniel calls "contagious conversations".

In his opinion starting and continuing what he calls "contagious conversation" creates change in the world. And being a person that loves nothing more than being engaged in these kinds of conversations, I’m more inspired than ever to keep creating and to keep what I hope will be "contagious conversation" going on here at my blog...to follow my Right-Brain intuition and never doubt it again, at least not for today. Maybe it really is MY time. Maybe it YOUR time too. Are you feeling like it might be?

(original is sold)

This one is also available as a print at Etsy, as I know a few people who have been hoping for a print featuring a family of 6.

I didn't even listen to the conversation, but I have a faith that this is true. I don't know why I do, but I do. I think the world is changing to one that is less black and white and more creative and community based. Less about expansion, and more about making the moments count.

Again, I don't know why I believe this. Lets say it's a premonition.
Thanks for the heads up about some more great conversations. I will definitely check it out. (Your previous reference to Michael Neill lead me to listening to his radio show, and he's great!)

I have heard this idea as well--that we are coming into a very creative age. I love hearing people talking about creativity and inspiring people to act on their own creative impulses.
I haven't yet had the chance to listen to the particular conversation but it's downloaded and ready to be loaded on my ipod and now I can't wait!

From what you have explained here and commented on, it sounds like a profound idea that I too feel is about to really take hold and start leading the way. It provides me with much hope for the future and for myself.

I had to think about your question for a brief moment and realized that yes, I think this is my time now, my time to finally follow my heart, my creative side, my right brain which I had tucked away for far too long and was left feeling lost.

I have such a strong urge to create every single day... something, anything... the pull is getting stronger and stronger and this post solidified why that is... my right brain has been calling (calling with a megaphone point blank to my ear) and I can no longer ignore it.

You! You! You are one smart cookie Marisa, keep the contagious conversations and the inspiring thoughts coming, much appreciated.
Thank you Marisa, for this inspiring thought and sharing this conversation with us! I recently took up the courage to start on my creative journey, taking baby steps but at times I wonder if is gonna be okay. But every time I hop on by ur bubble space, I always end up leaving feeling refresh and regenerated, ready to fight the challenge and fear within and continue my creative journey. =)
oh oh, great post!
I'm in love with that painting and am totally going to check out that book!
looks really good.
I read Mr. Pink's book two years ago and it changed my life. Thanks for sharing the link, and reminding me of his good work. Love your site!
yay...loving the family print...
Interesting... I can sort of see the logic in the argument that when needs are met we have the space and time to be creative. Personally, I've always believed that conflict and need inspire creativity, not rest and contentment. I see The Arts as being about communication and exploration, and for me the desire to connect with others and to understand myself/my world compels me to write/paint etc. I think if all my needs were met I'd lose some of that inspiration. (That kind of explains why my work is not always as celebratory as yours...)

Maybe we're talking about different sorts of creativity, or different types of inspiration?

hmmm...
wow, that's so great. I have known I've been right brained for a long time, but it's amazing how crystal clear it is trying to be in business for myself. nothing wrong with it at all, just takes really recognizing where my strengths are & where it is wise for me to ask for support, etc.

anyway, it's nothing but good news to just hear an affirmation that this is more welcome now than ever. :) and the war of art looks great too - that'll kick my arse in gear, eh!? :p thanks marisa.
