someone is waiting for chicken

Riley waiting for chicken

I have to be an honest and say that I woke up rather early today. 3:45 ish to be exact. Awoken by Lulu, my other co-worker aka a great dane, at this early hour, I tried going back to sleep and could not. What I like to call "Insomnia anxiety" kicked in in full force. Nothing major really, just the usual fearful thoughts that I like to torture myself with.  My rule is if I’m lying there for more than an hour, I’m just going to get up and sleep later.

Once I’m up, this is also when I decide to work ~ I start to feel better right away just because I gave my mind something else to focus on, that ~ and I started doing the checklist of things to do that were listing themselves in my brain just moments earlier, racing around in circles like a hamster on a hamster wheel.

Then, as I was writing my first blog post of the day, I noticed the sun started to come up and the sky was the most beautiful soft rosy pink just for a moment. And then, I had some of the BEST, newly discovered, oatmeal raisin cookies , 2 to be exact (i believe they count as breakfast ~ the oatmeal + the raisin= breakfast) And, then I looked at this photo that I’ve been meaning to share with you because I find it HIGHLARIOUS (my phraseology for saying "hilarious"). Now a little slap~happy from a lack of sleep, a hot coffee latte in my hand, a morning visit with Sean, the anxiety is gone and the day is already better and brighter. Such a good thing, because you see anxiety moments like this used to go on quite a bit longer. It’s comforting for me to recognize that they just don’t last so much any more. This way I won’t take them too seriously in the future.

In case a moment of the anxieties happened to visit you too today and in case you might need a little humor to shake it loose ~ I’m sharing this photo with you. You see, to say that Riley likes chicken is an understatement ~ more like he’s "obsessed" with it would be a more accurate description. And the minute I got up from the table after having my roast chicken dinner the other day, I returned to find someone had taken my seat and was waiting for chicken, sea salt shaker and all.

That picture definitely made me smile. Now I'm craving chicken.
What a great photo! I love animals!
great post.
great blog!
I just found you and love your work, happy Thursday.
That sounds about right. Although, our 2 cats don't wait for us to get up. Rather, the eldest circles us like a shark; a loving shark, yes, but a shark nonetheless. The youngest will get up on his high legs and desperately try to grab food off our plates.

Oh, and forget about eating in bed. That's an exercise in chew, push kitty back, chew, push kitty back, ad nauseam.
Cookies for breakfast? Now THAT's an awesome day.
I love your blog and Olive! I just found you through poppytalk's blog and will be stopping by again :) Congratulations on your book too.
OMG! I have a cat just like this-only a little fatter (she's big boned) Too cute!

I awake early some days also and HAVE to get out of bed. I call it creative excitedness. When there are so many good ideas and plans for new paintings in my head that I just can't sleep. I make a large hot Starbucks home brew and start work. It's a major perk of "living your dream". Thank you Marisa for your beautiful artwork and the most adorable little creatures!
You know i have a cat that looks just like yours, well, I also have that table cloth. That could be my house. Though I WISH i had that beautiful chair!

Glad you are feeling better. That's a good rule about getting up instead of laying in bed and fretting. I get the night worries too. It's great you have an outlet.
Oh that is just adorable! Thank you for sharing - I needed a pick-me-up! :)
Hey Marisa--I read this post right before bed and then when I woke at 4 am and was feeling anxious and almost nauseous (been having a lot of nighttime nausea), I thought of this post to get my mind off of it and was able to eventually get back to sleep.
And no, there was no chance of me getting up at that hour. I'm amazed that anyone could!
I do the same if I wake and can't get back to sleep. I actually quite like working/creating at 4.30am - something very peaceful about it. I really love sitting at the computer and hearing the birds waking up.

That pic of your cat is brilliant!
Great post. I was happy to hear that your times of anxiety are reducing in duration and depth. A sure sign you are on the right path for your life and achievement of happiness. BTW I re-listened to your podcast on happiness, it is a great reminder that the present is full of happy moments and the down periods are fleeting in comparison to the happy ones! Have a wonderful weekend! Liz
Wow. Wow. Wow. Your kitty looks like my kitty, Guinness - who just passed (quite unexpectedly). This picture made my day. It was like Mr. Guinness was sending me a message. I can't thank you enough for sharing this picture. It made me smile.
hey marisa, just have to share that HIGH-larious is in use at our house to designate even more hilarious than hilarious! i'm trying to remember when we started saying it... maybe a year or two ago? i can't remember if we just did it or heard it. i have a bad habit of mispronouncing words, or mashing two words together, so unusual words like this float throughout all of our conversations.
FYI----Your book is highlight in the Real Simple Blog here

You deserve every ounce of admiration that comes your way!
Love,

Same exact thing happened to me last night. Eating chicken. Get up. Come back. Cat in chair. Well, without the sea salt. They're so loveable.
