in my nest

In my nest
5 x 5 in.

I was just about to fall asleep for a nap, and you know that moment just before you drift off? Well sometimes for me that is the exact moment when an image for a painting will pop into my head. This little fellow was one of those images that popped into my head ~ then over breakfast after surfing this past Sunday, I sketched it out in crayon on one of those white paper tablecloths ~ then after breakfast I bought some orange and pink flowers at the farmer’s market and I knew that this color combination would present itself in a painting and this one seemed perfect for it. Oooh, and I can’t forget my most favorite part of this painting ~ if you look real close, you can see the tiny white fuzzy feathers I painted on this chickadee.

Who knew naps were so productive?

hope you had a nice holiday weekend!

This is such a gorgeous painting. The little bird is adorable - it made me ahhhhhh out loud :-)
Marisa,

This painting is just adorable. The little bird looks so cozy in her nest. No surprise that the original sold so quickly.
I will have to click right over to etsy.

I'm so excited that you shared an inspiration you got during hypnagogia (that's the technical term for that state between waking and sleeping).

I am fascinated with artists who use their dreams or dream-like states to create art. Thanks for sharing how you discovered this delightful painting!
