I need a moment

I need a moment

6 x 6 in.

This is the fourth in the Anthropologie series, inspired by the most recent catalog cover, and colors styled by me~ I’ve been working on this one off and on all day as it took multiple attempts to get the face "right", but I’m happy with her sentiment now.

I was hoping to share some really exciting news with you today about an opportunity that felt like a "big" one ~ but after months of waiting, and a fair bit of work to pull it together ~ I learned that this opportunity will not be happening, at least not next week as it might have. And to be honest I’m disappointed and I really do "need a moment". And in this moment I realize that this is also a different opportunity than I thought. This is actually an opportunity for me to walk the walk that I talk so much about on this blog and especially my podcasts. A chance for me to be gracious within disappointment ~ a chance for me to really take notice of everything that is going so well every day, and to let that continue to take priority over everything else.

This is also a chance for me to actually take a moment. I’ve felt a bit like on the work side of things, I’ve been pushing and I haven’t been giving myself quite enough time "in the space between", like I wrote about in my recent article. I’m at a certain point with Creative Thursday where I’ve taken everything as far as I can see and it’s time to let go a bit. There’s a little sense of relief in the idea of that and also some fear as to what will happen if I do let go, but I’m sensing it’s time. So this disappointment is actually becoming a moment of clarity for me to get back in touch with what I want this all to be ~ and I keep having to ask myself why it is so important that I take this to the next level? It’s not that I question wanting more for myself and my business, but I question my intent behind it. I think as a business owner and a human being in the world, it’s always good to  check in with yourself. Sometimes it is all to easy to get caught up in life, only to realize that you’re pointed in the wrong direction. And spinning your wheels in the wrong direction can be a bit exhausting. It seems to require a lot less effort in the long run to take a moment ~ I’m learning. Now if only I can truly trust in the ebb and flow of expending effort instead of trying to "make" things happen all the time. Step by step, I’m figuring it out :)

Since I save this blog for times when I feel like I can share the best of myself, I will return when the best of myself returns, which could be tomorrow ~ but just in case it isn’t, and I need a few days, I wanted to let you know where I was.

I also wanted to say that one of the best parts about this opportunity that "didn’t happen", was the chance to "meet" some of the nicest new friends who really went the extra mile for me and I sincerely thank them for all their support and efforts in trying to pull this together :)

Whatever "didn't" happen sounds like it's a big disappointment and you just need to take some time to take it in, re-think and and let it be for awhile. I'm coming up to my tenth year of "living my bliss", growing my business (and myself) and have had many disappointments and things that "didn't happen". I honestly believe that when one door closes another one opens. Take some time, as you said-you'll know when you're ready to be here.

This is my favorite piece from your Anthropologie series-it's wonderful Marisa!!
This is really sweet. I love the lady and her outfit is adorable.
Marisa, it's just such a beautiful piece of art.
Marisa, I'm sorry to hear about your disappointment. Good for you for taking it as a chance to grow and think and make your life better! You feel better and come back to your blog when you're ready!

*hugs*
I love that painting.

And I'm sorry about your opportunity falling through. It is hard to bounce back from, even if you "know" there is good in it.

I think it's okay to be disappointed. You don't have to be strong. Take some time and just be with your sadness and then you can move on, while still honoring your hurt.
Marisa I absolutely believe with all of my heart that things happen for a reason. That reason may not be apparent to you now, but it will come, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe in two years. You will end up being very thankful that this fell through, even though you feel terrible disappointment now. I had a similar experience recently- an opportunity to do a MAJOR photography project in 2009 that fell through. But things are going great with my business right now, so I think: "did I really HAVE to do that project?". "Will my business be any LESS because it didn't happen?". "Will I be less fulfilled?", and I think the answer is just the opposite, because now that a week has passed, I can clearly see the reasons why it is best that it didn't work out. So I say give yourself permission to feel bummed out and cry into your wine and say "why not ME??, what's wrong with ME?" and then just carry on, and smile with relief when those 'better off without' reasons come to you. :-)
I'm so sorry about your disappointment. :(

I hope another door opens soon.
It will all work out as it should. I think you are on the right path. Sounds like a little nurturing is in order.

much love.
I LOVE this painting. It is so beautiful and classy :) I got the opportunity to visit an anthropology last weekend and your painting certainly reminded me of the glorious experience! I love your color choices and the sweet expression on the lovely lady's face.
This one is one of your best paintings, if you ask me. Beautiful work!

♥
This is a gorgeous painting, Marisa. I really empathize with the woman pictured here, as I'm sure so many others do as well. And your graciousness about this disappointment is another act of inspiration for us all. xox
I am sorry to hear about your disappointment. Take all the time you need for you. It always amazes me how much positive can come out of something so negative. I’ll be sending good thoughts your way. -elisa
Marisa, I am very sorry also for the disappointment. I had one also a month ago that would have really grown my business in a certain way...and I was very upset as well. But now, I am fine, and I'm moving along. I too took a few days to revamp and it helped. I loved this post and how you are willing to share so much. Thanks for that. And have a restful few days.
Marisa I'm with Jamie, I also believe that all things happen for reasons we don't always SEE today but that we will SEE tomorrow or maybe a year from now. And then you'll have that A-HA! moment when you remember this supposed disappointment and you'll say, "Now I know why 'it' didn't happen and I'm glad for it because THIS was able to open up to me now because of it!". I've had this happen so many times I've lost count. I can't tell you all of the disappointment that comes from being ME. :) But you know it's a refinement and we are made stronger and better not through the good experiences in life but through the crappy ones.

You are a wonderful, creative, inspiring person. Screw whatever didn't occur and use your energy to devote to your art and your voice -- your podcasts -- and work towards a new goal. You are way popular, have a huge fan club, a successful business, there is absolutely no way you can't move into something else amazing with your popularity and talent.

Marisa you are a star. You will always be shining and bright!

Today, like every other day,
we may wake up empty or frightened.
Don't open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.

Dear Marisa, take your time. Another door or window are waiting. Much love and care from me.
I haven't been to your site in awhile so, in celebration of kids back in school, I clicked randomly on your past posts and saw this - really incredible, evocative work. Love it!

It doesn't hurt that I also love Anthro's stuff, despite their excessive use of bows.
