serena and her doll

6 x 8 in.

Did I mention that my closet fell apart? Yup, the bar that held up all my hanging clothes fell right before I went on vacation and to be honest I haven’t had a chance to fix it yet. That and I’m a renter so I’m having issues with the idea of fixing it myself, which my landlord seems to think is appropriate. That and I’d rather paint. And the point of me telling you this? Is that yesterday when I was gazing at my colorful array of clothes neatly hanging outside of my closet on a temporary garment rack, I noticed this pink and orange and red color combination on one of my skirts that instantly inspired this painting, new character Serena and all. You see! (I remind myself) there’s inspiration in every experience if you just take a moment to stop and notice or in today’s soon to be overused, but still so true vernacular, "be present".

(original is sold)

Serena is now available as a print over at Etsy.

This painting of Serena and her doll is adorable. I love the color combos too.
They were very popular colors back in the 60's when I was in junior high school.
Isn't it fun when you find inspiration in the oddest places.

Good luck with closet rebuild.
I just read another blog that quoted emerson and then I read yours that made me think of one quotes of his.
"For everything you have missed, you have gained something else, and for everything you gain, you lose something else.”
You lost a closet rod and gain a cute little painting. I love the colors and that little bit of white just sets it all off.
That is so true and inspiring! That even in situations that might be a bit of a pain in the buttocks to deal with, inspiration can be found. Wonderful painting!
(This comment is for your fabric post....for some reason it won't let me comment there. )
I can't wait to see what you make with your new fabric! I made a little softie that reminds me of something you'd like. I think your work inspired me without me even meaning it to! Please take that as a compliment! I'm actually doing one of those free giveaways with her so come by and see!
Oh, my gosh. My landlord, when a sewage drain pipe flooded our basement, thought it was appropriate to LEAVE THE STANDING WATER AND NOT CLEAN IT UP. Because "it will evaporate." Yeah. In a basement. Sewage water. I feel your pain, I really do.

Also, love the little koalas up there!
