back home

I think... We’ve returned from a really wonderful vacation visiting our families in Northern California and Oregon. This is a self-portrait of a reflection of Sean and I standing on a deck overlooking a valley in Ashland, Oregon having wine and listening to a jazz band play a Miles Davis compilation on one of those glorious summer evenings, where the light lasts forever and the air is soft. It was in fact SO nice to be away, that what we are calling "re-entry" back into our regular lives has felt harder than usual this time. It’s probably because it’s the longest time we’ve been away from it all in a quite a while. We also had hours upon hours of thoughtful and inspiring conversations about life, with people we love coupled with generous time and space to think about what was, what is and what’s next. But it may also be because we saw our dream house in Oregon, and now we’re beginning to wonder if the heart of Los Angeles is really the place we want to call home. So if anyone knows of a piece of property like this, here on the West coast, with rolling hills, horses, a vineyard, and close proximity to the ocean, a farmer’s market, and an Anthropologie, please let me know!

In the meantime, I hope many of you had a fun, fireworks filled holiday weekend ~ I will say that among many things, the vacation definitely delivered by re-freshing and re-inspiring all things creative. In fact I have so many ideas up my sleeve, I can’t wait to share them with you. I’ll be back soon with some of the newest creations and as of today, I’m officially glad to be home and ready to go back to work!

I've been lurking (yes, guilty). I've been taking joy from your art work and your life choices, those that you share with us, with delight. I hope you truly enjoyed your California adventure.
Oh, there's nothing better then to be refreshed and ready to start again. I love the picture of the horse in the pasture. It looks like a wonderful dream to me too.
Looking forward to your new ideas.
Take care and Welcome Home

Hugs,
Karen
Beautiful place!
I know what you mean. I always have a hard time with re-entry after a vacation. Going back to work, going back to chores, coming back to a city that I don't enjoy. I always have to brace myself for a bit of a systems shock when I come back home.
Welcome back. I know how hard it is to come back to work after a great vacation but I hope your transition isn’t too hard!
welcome back! glad you had a good holiday!

i know exactly what you mean about oregon. we have our spot picked out on the central coast close to my favorite break in the world. it's a few years off, but i know we'll make it there.

happy tuesday!

Yes, Malibu, Rancho Palos Verdes and Thousand Oaks all fit those guidelines! There are even some huge lots in Studio city with horses. Although I think you'd have to plant your own vineyard. (we're househunting in the LA area and want land too)

Welcome back!
I totally know what you mean-- I went up to the northern California coast this past weekend-- just 3 days, but it felt like an eternity. This Monday was an especially grouchy monday.
welcome back home Marisa!
Your vaction sounds so wonderful!
Ah welcome back Marisa! :) So nice to see you blogging again, I've missed you!
Yes I know of *that* place. It's called New England, in particular, New Hampshire. Or Germany. :) So please come visit me anytime in either of these two places and we'll move you over here. :))))))))
Hi Marisa - I've just found you and LOVE reading your blog and finding your art in my in box here and there. I lived in L.A. for six years and just moved to the mid-west about 6 months ago. I have to say, I really like it. I think L.A. is good for a time but not forever... And, my art got a boost in a new part of the country - not that you need a boost, but inspiration can be hard to come by when you're sitting in traffic all the time ;) Cheers!
