just a giraffe

6 x 6 in.

ummm, I’m feeling a bit grouchy this morning so I’m not saying anything because I don’t have anything nice to say :) but I do LOVE this sweet giraffe! In fact I’ll just come right out and say that I have not felt myself most of this entire week. I’ve found among some of my friends that I’m not alone in this sentiment this particular week, so sometimes I wonder if there is just some "universal" oddness that happens from time to time that can make people feel "off". I find that this happens to me periodically and I interpret it as: I’m in the process of making some sort of shift, change, energetic expansion, or whatever you want to call it, in who I am and where I am headed and that because it’s momentarily new territory, it makes me feel less like myself, because "myself" is changing. And that sensation of change has a tendency to make me feel uncomfortable = grouchy. It also makes me nostalgic for my past for some reason, probably because that’s familiar. I dont' know if this makes any sense to you, but I’m throwing it out there just in case you might be feeling similarly this week or any other week for that matter. And the important thing to remember (as I write this as a reminder to me) is not to question the fact that you feel off or assume something is wrong because you feel "off", or as in my case, let it make you grouchy, because in my understanding these feelings are just part of inviting the next bit of newness in, and that is always a good thing. So until the newness settles in, I’m finding ways to distract myself into a better mood, like taking a walk on this gorgeous day right now. (Oh and part of me is probably also slightly aware that I am indeed due for a much needed vacation, which is thankfully happening in just a few weeks!) Through the veil of "not myselfness" I’m still wishing you a happy friday.

I love your giraffe on his electric red background - the darker swirls remind me of sand dunes shifting in the wind. And! I totally relate with what you described about off-days/moods/internal shifts leading to newness settling in. What I did today to ride out a wave of "eh" was have the most amazing mango smoothie - a whole mango, cut up, with some milk, and blended to smooth frothy awesomeness. I savored each sip and was completely in the moment. And that felt really really good.
I've been grouchy for the past 34 weeks. And I am certainly EXPANDING. :) But, I do want to say that you have significantly brightened my mood by your wonderful and generous birthday gift. Take a little trip over to my blog to see how much... I think it will make you smile. xxoo!!!
It makes perfect sense to me. The fact that you are aware of it is truly a gift. Have a great weekend.
I just love how you put the grouchiness into perspective! I too have had a wierd, just not myself, grouchy, don't look at me wrong, uncreative week. I guess all the changes are taking a toll and it is taking awhile for me to let the newness in. Let it sink in per say. So thanks for sharing.....and letting me share back!
Just wanted to say thank you for the kind comment you left on my blog-it was much appreciated!
Also, I love this painting and blog post. I've had an off, a bit grouchy week too, so it's nice to hear I'm not the only one! :)
hey there miss! i tend to have lots of grouchy days! i am a scorpio, very sassy. you have been a busy girl and i love the giraffe. i wish we saw more of them.

Sure DID seem like an odd week! I'm right there with ya.

I've been catching up on your blog, Marisa...as soon as I saw that little mermaid I headed to your Etsy shop to buy it. Dang it if it wasn't already sold! That'll teach me to go on vacation!
add me to the grouchy club :) your little giraffe is so cute - i'm sure you'll be perking up soon :)
Me too! (Though I think my grouchiness began long before this week...) You are so talented and productive and creative--remember that through the fog of crankiness. I admit I am more than a little envious... Hope your mood lightens.
Oh, my, you described exactly how I've been feeling as of late! your interpretation and words were very soothing to me. I agree, it lines up with change and shifting, and I don't do very well with that.....but, yes, it's part of life. I do wonder about the "universal" thing though. Perhaps change in seasons=seasons of change? I don't know, I'm not very good at math. lol. Did someone say vacation? :) Lia
I really love your paintings! You are a very great artist, and your art makes me smile! :D
Best whises from Spain.
Hi Marisa,
I know what you mean, this past week, even perhaps the past 2 weeks, I've just felt very 'edgy & jittery' even on those blissful days the uncomfortable and grouchy feeling wasn't far behind lurking in the depths and I've no ideal where it came from. I totally agree with you, it's probably symptomatic of changes on the way, I've been feeling this alot lately and usually it makes me feel hyper and excited but that jittery/grouchiness won me over this week instead of the latter more positive feeling. This week I feel like theres alot to get back on track with, workwise, physical wise and spiritual wise, wish me luck:D! Wishing you a happy Monday, Be Well and Happy Creating, Mandy Saile
Crazy! I've been feeling the same exact way...and you're right, I do have some huge changes coming up...it's nice to see how you put your feelings into perspective. I usually just walk around thinking I could very well be loosing my mind :) I enjoy your blog and your art.
What a lovely post, Marisa. I'm so glad that you are feeling better. :)
The moon changes tides, so i imagine as the human body is mostly water our moods have to be affected. I do know that I'm affected by the full moon, especially the April full moon in my home land, Australia. Have you had a full moon lately? Love the giraffe, would cheer up anyone in a funny mood. :-)
