bittersweet

The excitement of the move and getting settled in our new home has been clouded by a bit of sadness. It’s been 2 days now and our Riley is missing. We let him out as we always do, and he has disappeared. Riley has gone on "walkabouts" as I call them, twice before ~ but this is the longest he’s been gone and I’m not exactly sure how we go about finding him. Every morning I wake up, I keep hoping he will just appear outside as he always does.

Oh, Marisa, I am so sorry that he is missing. You might try putting pictures out or go door to door. I hope he comes home. Your in my thoughts.
My family went through this years ago. Within a month we lost both our boys and it was so devastating for us. It took years before we could have another kitty around. Our Molly is 16 1/2 years old now and she has never been outside.
Hugs,
Karen
I don't know how frequently this happens but my dad's cat went on a "walkabout" while my parents were on vacation last summer. the person catsitting couldn't find him anywhere after only a week of their absence. he was gone for about two months and then one night, out of no where he showed up again scrawny and forlorn looking, but home at last.

don't get to sad yet! you never know
Thanks so much for keeping us in your thoughts Karen. And Megan, thanks so much for sharing this story. We just went walking around the neighborhood and met our new neighbor who said her cat was gone for 2 weeks and also returned a bit scrawny too ~ but happy to be home. I have hope!
I'm so sorry to read about Riley.
I had a cat who decided, at first, she would rather live at our old house than our new one. She kept going back there after we moved. It was amazing to me that she could find it as we moved 10 miles away. Let your neighbors & whoever moved into your old house know about Riley.
Oh, Marisa! Poor Riley. I know your little kitty will come home soon... thinking of you guys. xxoo

Oh I'm sorry! Maybe he went back to your old house? I hope hope hope you find him!!
This happened often when I was a child and we'd move. The vet told us back then that a cat will try to go back to it's home - meaning the previous address from which you moved. Have you tried going back to your place? It may take him a few days to get back there, but you may be surprised to find him on your old patio or something trying to get inside. The only negative is that cats can get a bit lost or afraid, so you may want to simply post signage in your old and new neighborhood, along with areas in between where he may be spotted, and see if anyone replies. Offering $$$ is an incentive for people.

Riley come home!!! We miss you!!!
