One of my newest friends made through the internet (and the hours spent learning to record my first bi-coastal podcast! Me in Los Angeles, and Holly in Boston).
I’m honored to share Holly’s story with you. She left the corporate world, to join the creative one and through a "little" design blog, decor8, that she started in January 2006 - it is safe to say that Holly has found her voice, one that touches 8,000 readers a day and growing.
I am endlessly thankful for the gracious support Holly has shown to me and Creative Thursday. And especially grateful to have such a wonderful new friend!
*Note* April 26 - so sorry if anyone tried to download the mp3 as there seemed to be technical difficulties with the file. It should be fixed now. Also, I completely forgot to include links as I promised. Here are links to the wonderful sites that Holly mentioned Apartment Therapy and Media Bistro .
Also, thank you for all your comments, here and at decor8 (yes, I’m embarrassed to say, I never "got" Decorate, I’ve always called it Decor-8 :) ) forgive me!

I've been reading Holly/Decor8 since Jan '06. I was one of the readers that got turned on to her via Apt Therapy. She's very inspiring. It was great to hear the voice behind the blog. Thanks for the podcast!
After hearing Holly speak about the inception and development of her blog and her views on inspiration, I can see why I appreciate her blog so much. I especially appreciate her passion and she shares it so well with others. Her sensitive, sincere, and generous personality come through. What a great person !
I really like this podcast because I read both of your blogs quite regularly. The point of being heard is so good to hear. Because Holly is heard, I guess all over the world, at least here in the netherlands. Very inspiring and cool to see that everyone has insecurity's about blogger that can grow into strenght!

Holly Becker has painstakenly developed a wonderful community, full of life, love and inclusiveness. I always feel welcomed when I visit her site. It's not "clubby." I don't always like 100% percent of the content, I am turning to her for ideas and inspiration.

It's great to discover your site, too!

Thanks for the podcast!

- John
John thank you for your words, you've been so supportive from the first time we chatted on the phone and 'met' that way -- I think it was a year ago already. I appreciate how you've stuck around for so long, and although my blog does showcase so many feminine finds, that some of my male readers like yourself still stop by. I'm sorry it's not more masculine, sometimes it bothers me because I want to blog about things that suit men more, but I need to develop that side more because I'm very much a girl.

John - thanks again and you know what? Marisa lives almost next door to you, she's also in LA. You two should meet or podcast or something. She's the best.

Hi - wanted to share this kind email from Gaile, http://gaileguevara.blogspot.com/
She had trouble posting a comment here. My apologies for anyone else who had difficulties. Feel free to send me an email.
thank you Gaile!

Thank you so much Marisa for this interview, it's great to hear the voice behind the words and creative. Decor8 is a blog I’m inspired by, I love how Holly’s positive energy comes through each of her articles. The blog world has transformed my life over the recent few months. I can see why Décor8 speaks highly of you – you really have brought new insight to podcasts that are meaningful by bringing out the best in all of us.

I shared similar motivations to starting a design blog. I found it disappointing in the earlier years of my career to work with those who out of insecurities didn’t appreciate the value of the relationships and efforts of others. The design industry at times was not the energy I had hoped for. At times I found designers were scared to share their resources due to the thought of losing their sources to competition or purely out of ego. It also never seems to amaze me how sometimes what we may perceive as an endless polished resume, there is not much under the surface of some. Blogging is such a great medium of personal expression and I agree that it is the effort invested in good blogs that make bloggers accountable. It isn’t always a title or years of experience that we can find talent, with technology today, I am so thrilled to find so many talented designers who I learn so much from. 4 years ago it was a painful process to find modern inspiration on the internet and more recently, it just made sense to organize my resource library on line for my clients and selfishly at first just for me to be able to go to one website with the information I am inspired by. I have grown to love responding to emails from those who appreciate similar aesthetics.

Holly along with some of the great blogging communities helped motivate me to find my place on-line through sharing what I love most about the work I do. I love interior design most of all for the opportunity to learn through sourcing and sharing with those who appreciate the value of resources. It's rewarding and a privilege to have an emotional connection working closely with clients. Reading and listening to the blogs today … end especially ending the evening with your podcast – thank you so much. I really appreciate this interview - it was just what I needed for inspiration and motivation. More importantly a perfect example of why the love of blogging is such a powerful source of inspiration! Your work has truly helped make blogging more complete by listening to your interview I was able to reconnect in a way that even through writing and images, hearing a voice is a beautiful thing, completes our senses to a higher level. Like the good old days when people would gather around the radio, it allows us to focus in on one of our senses - an important one - listening. Cheers and all the best to you both!

smiles =) gaile
